Q:
How
do we get to my grandma's village?
A: We'll take the train (or
sometimes a bus)
to the area where grandma lived, and then drive the country roads by car
or van until we
get to the village and the farm.
Q:
What
kind of hotel will we stay at?
A:
We
stay at comfortable, but not fancy, hotels - always with a private
bath/shower. Big breakfasts are included. Some hotels have an elevator,
but sometimes you have to climb one or even two flights of stairs to your
room. Rooms tend to be smaller in Sweden than in the USA or Canada.
Q:
What
kind of clothes should I take?
A:
Good question - and not easy to answer, because the weather in Sweden is unpredictable.
Generally, take practical clothes: jeans/slacks, comfortable shirts, a
sweater, a windbreaker, rain clothes. Try to take clothes that can be washed easily in
a
hotel room sink. Laundromats are rare in Sweden and hotels charge
quite a bit to wash for you.
Most important: comfortable shoes! Remember: travel light
since you'll have to handle your luggage on your own. We suggest one
medium sized, or even small, suitcase plus a small backpack.
Q:
Do I
need travel insurance?
A:
Yes,
it's important to have, in case you get sick in Sweden and need medical
assistance, or even a special plane ride home.
This site has
important information about insurance.
Q:
I
speak very little Swedish. How am I going to be able to talk to my
relatives?
A:
That's
where I, Marie Louise, come in, and serve as interpreter.
Q:
How do I get Swedish kronor over there?
A:
The
easiest way is by using your debit card in one of the many ATM machines. You
do need a code number for this!
